Transformation Column

The Transformation Column is one exploration into the invention of new kinds of interactive sculptures. In this case, a column has been subdivided into 7 segments of different heights. Each of the segments has had various sized and shaped sections removed, in a random fashion. Each of these cut out sections have been painted a different color then the rest of the segment. Each of the 7 segments is pierced with a hole at their center, which allows them to be placed through a center support rod. All of the segments can be placed over the support rod in any sequence, and each can be rotated independently around the center support rod. This allows one to change the shape of the column along with the color pattern. The intent is to give the viewer of the sculpture the opportunity to participate in it's creation.
