Furniture For The Park
Furniture For The Park is a series of monumental public art sculpture proposals, made of painted steel. The series presently consists of four abstracted symbolic chair forms, and one table form. Each has been abstracted by visually moving parts and/or the entire original symbolic chair or table form through space and time, and freezing the movement into a sequence of connected segments. These finished forms have also been joined or placed together in another series suggesting the potentials of evolving the original forms into more complex structures.
Conceptually, Furniture For The Park is intended to offer a playful alternative to most public art. Functionally, the sculptures blur the lines between furniture, sculpture, and architecture. Even though the structures are too large to use in a conventional way, each is large enough so they can function as pavilions, which visitors to the park can use as shelters.
