A Pavilion for the People
A Pavilion for the People is a public art structure designed to function as a public gathering place. It is to be made of prefabricated steel components mounted onto a concrete base. Forty-four gable frame sections (made of steel square tubes) make up most of the structure with eight of those used to support two solid roofs. There are two large solar cell panels mounted onto the south side of the roofs. The solar cells are used to charge batteries that power night-lights, and supply electricity for visitors who want to power their electronic devices.
The two roof sections of the pavilion partially protect two large tables and eighteen yellow colored seats that are mounted below onto the concrete base. At the center of the pavilion there are two benches, one mounted onto the concrete base, and the other is elevated above the concrete base onto a platform that is supported by some of the gable frames. A staircase attached to the south side of the structure can be used to access the bench.
A Pavilion for the People was designed to be placed into a public park, onto a university campus, and/or onto a corporate campus. The sculptural form of the pavilion, along with its functionality, offers the visitors an exciting special place in and around which to gather together to work, meet, or just relax.
