Totems
Totems are a series of photomontages that refer to traditional Native American Indian totems defined as natural objects or animals believed by a particular society to have spiritual significance and adopted by it as an emblem.
My Totems were created from images of some of my sculptures, images of myself, and images of animals. These things were photographed with a digital camera and placed into my computer. There the images were isolated, copied, and assembled together into various vertical configurations that resemble the traditional totem poles. In some cases the vertical photomontages were manipulated further in the computer by warping the images in various ways.
The intent in each case was to create never before seen objects that inspire the viewer to wonder what the meaning behind the assemblage of images could be.
