The Interactive Transformation Table

The Interactive Transformation Table

The Interactive Transformation Table folds in and out from a two foot, by three foot, by eighteen-inch painted wooden box, into many different and unexpected configurations. Three sections of the box have been cut out into different shapes, and hinged along one straight edge, back to the original box. Each of these sections is supported at the bottom with casters that allow the sections to be opened and/or closed in many different ways. Mounted to each of the moveable sections on the inside are a series of shelves that have been painted a different color, and add to the aesthetic complexity of the table, when it is opened. Even though this table is made of painted wood, many other materials can be used to construct many different kinds of tables that use this method of transformation.

The Interactive Transformable Table is part of a series of interactive functional art furniture pieces that explore ways in which functional furniture can also become playful sculptures that give the user an opportunity to share in the creative process.
