The Modular Shade Pavilions
The Modular Shade Pavilions are part of a series of public art/architecture projects designed to provide shade for the communities in which the structures are installed. They are designed to be prefabricated and made of painted steel and fabric. They can be assembled with little or minimal foundation requirements. These structures can be installed almost anywhere but the preferred locations are in public parks.
The Modular Shade Pavilions are designed to be pre-fabricated and can be increased or decreased in size depending of site-specific requirement. They consist of a series of steel frames supported by steel support columns. Each of the frames has been assembled into a series of fabric-covered triangles that have been folded open into symmetrical configurations. These fabric covered frames shade the space below, which is fitted with a series seats for the visitors. The fabric that covers the triangular shaped frames is available in various colors and printed graphics.
The creation of the pavilions were inspired by the heating up of the earth through global climate change, and the growing need for places where people can retreat from the heat of the sun.
