A Place In The Sun
A Place In The Sun is a prefabricated, modular, painted wood functional art structure designed as a public gathering place that makes electricity from the sun for the visitors as well as for the surrounding community in which it is installed. The base prefabricated shade modules that form the structure can be assembled into many different configurations in order to accommodate many different site-specific requirements. Some of the modules are elevated above the ground with access stairs. All of them are fitted with places to sit and/or lay. Some have built-in tables and benches, and some are equipped with solar powered ceiling fans. All of the modules are fitted with solar powered electrical outlets that allow the visitors to charge their electronic devices. Some of the solar electricity is also used at night to light the structure. All of the solar power is supplied through a series of photovoltaic panels that are mounted above the structure. The solar electricity that is used at the structure is stored in batteries, and the excess is sent into the local power grid.
A Place In The Sun was created in response to the Covid Pandemic and a growing need to rethink the kinds of public gathering places we need that are less confined and therefore less susceptible to human disease transmissions.
This specific structure was designed for warm weather months and/or for use in temperate climates. The structures are intended to be located in public parks, on university campuses, on corporate campuses, and/or integrated into any urban environment.
