Surreal Places

Surreal Places

Surreal Places is a series of digitally altered photos made from images of some of my three dimensional sculptures and architectural models, set into real and/or altered landscapes. Most of the images of the sculptures and models have been manipulated in my computer in ways that increase their visual complexity. This was often done by joining the images of them together in various ways. Some have been progressively increased in scale and stacked together forming towers and/or other complex configurations of the original object.

In most case, the manipulated objects were isolated from their original backgrounds and placed into real or altered landscapes. The altered landscapes were often copied and warped in various ways and/or cut into pieces and placed back together into totally unreal formations.

Each of the final montages were made in an attempt to create completely unexpected and original images of never before seen surreal places. A major inspiration for the creation of the Surreal Places series is the idea of the Metaverse, where these images can eventually evolve into completely immersive computer generated interactive environments, for multiple visitors.
