Masquerading At Home

Masquerading At Home

Masquerading At Home is a series of digitally altered photos of people and animals wearing masks (that were made from images of some of my 3-D sculptures) positioned in front of mobile homes and other derelict houses, most of which appear to be abandoned. This was done in order to create surreal montages that have never been seen before, in hopes that the viewers of these images will be inspired to create stories in there minds about who these characters are, why they are there, and why they are wearing masks.

The process included the selection of interesting people and animals to photograph. Those photos of people and animals were isolated in a computer from their original backgrounds. The composite masks were then created in the computer from images of my 3-D sculptures through a process of isolation, cutting, and rearranging parts into an original mask. These masks were then matched with what seemed to be the appropriate person and/or animal, and applied in the computer over their original faces. The isolated and masked alien looking characters were then paired with what seemed to be an appropriate dwelling, and placed into those landscapes, giving the impression that they must live there.
