Space-Time Transformation Monumental Furniture

Space-Time Transformation Monumental Furniture

Space-Time Transformation Monumental Furniture is a series of public art projects designed to be fabricated from painted steel. The series was created around the concept of illustrating the movement of objects through space and time. Simple symbolic chair and table shapes were first designed and constructed. Those objects were then visualized, as they might appear moving through space and time in various directions, in a kind of stop action progression, leaving traces of parts of each. The symbolic traces of the objects as they might appear when they move, were then constructed and attached to the original symbolic chair and table objects.

In some cases chairs and tables are grouped together as they might appear in their normal everyday use. Others are presented as single pieces such as a moving chair, and/or table.

The intention aesthetically is to create objects derived from this unique method of crystallizing the traces of movement of the objects through space and time, in a way that forms an unexpected and new kind of monumental sculptural art form. These public art sculptures were also created in order to explore new ways in which scientific concepts can be used to inspire new forms of art.
