Public Art for Large Public Events

Public Art for Large Public Events

These are a series of public art gathering places designed specifically for large public events like Burning Man, and Coachella. However, unlike most of the public art presently displayed at these events, all of the structures presented in this series are designed to help power the events through the integration of solar and/or wind technologies into their designs. In many cases the visitors to these events are able to interact with the art by charging their electronic devices through the structures, and also accessing special WIFI information. The structures are prefabricated and designed to function as temporary and/or permanent facilities.

All of the structures were created to not only function in these ways, but they were also designed to celebrate and promote the use of alternative energy gathering and storage systems in the built environment.

The Sounds of the Sun Pavilion is a large solar powered structure fitted with flexible photovoltaic solar cells. In addition to making electricity from the sun for the local event, it also generates random electronic music based on the ways in which the sunlight moves over the surface of the structure.

The Solar Eclipse Pavilion is a large public art gathering place that makes electricity from the sun for the local event. It also projects images and sounds from the surface of the sun onto a large video screen located under the array of photovoltaic solar cells.

The Solar Energy Field was designed to function as a public art gathering place that makes electricity from the sun for the local event, as well as providing shade for the visitors. People can actually interact with the structure by climbing up into it in order to get a better view of the event.

The Wind Tunnel Footbridge generates electricity from the wind for the local event, as visitors walk through the five rotating turbines. Each of the five turbines rotate in a different direction as they make electricity from five electric generators attached to each turbine.

The Solar Electric Pavilion is a large public art gathering place canopy covered with photovoltaic solar cells that make electricity from the sun for the local event, and shade the space below for the visitors. There are seats under the canopy and on the second level where visitors can climb the spiral staircase to access it. They can also charge their electronic devices through the structure and access special WIFI information about the local event.

The Solar Electric Generator is a large public art gathering place that also makes electricity from the sun for the local event. It is equipped with an array of photovoltaic solar cells that make the electricity. It is also equipped with eight video viewing ports for the visitors that display ever-changing images and sounds of dynamic electrical energy fields, produced by the real-time variations of sunlight and solar heat throughout the day.

The Sun Deck is a large interactive gathering place structure fitted with curved photovoltaic solar cells that make electricity from the sun for the local event. It also allows visitors to charge their electronic devices through it, and to access special WIFI information. They can also climb around on the structure to access various platforms onto which they can sit, relax, and enjoy the views of the local event.
