The Chair Pavilion
The Chair Pavilion is a public art-gathering place. It is a modular steel structure that is mounted onto a concrete base. It consists of fourteen steel chairs each of which is connected on the back to two straight square steel tubes. These square tubes change direction to form a zigzag trellis shape that reconnects to another chair with two more straight tubes. Seven of these are constructed into different height modules, which are intertwined in different orientations, forming the finished pavilion.
Conceptually, each of the chairs has grown part of a symbolic shelter above them, forming an inviting place for visitors to sit.
Since the structure is designed as a modular system of parts, it’s size and shape can be changed to accommodate different site-specific needs. Although the Chair Pavilion has been designed to be placed almost anywhere, the ideal location would be in a public park.
