Random Abstractions

Random Abstractions

Random Abstractions is a series of photo-based montages made from images of some of my wall sculptures. Photos were taken with a digital camera of the 3 dimensional wall sculptures. Those photos were placed into my computer where the images of the sculptures were isolated from their original backgrounds. The isolated sculpture images were then manipulated in various ways with the computer. This process usually involved cutting the original sculpture images up into pieces and reassembling those pieces back together in unexpected random abstractions. In some cases, several different sculpture images were cut up and mixed together in order to form the final montage.

All of these were made without any preconception of how I wanted the final montages to look. The intent was to create a method through which unexpected and totally new art could be made. This was accomplished because the unique original images were created by me in a three dimensional form, and the manipulation in my computer was done in a nearly random manner.
