The Solar Oasis Pavilion

The Solar Oasis Pavilion

The Solar Oasis Pavilion is a conceptual design proposal for a large public gathering place, created especially for hot climates. The painted steel pavilion was designed as a modular, pre-fabricated system that can be increased in size by adding more of the basic unites together in various ways, to accommodate site-specific requirements. Each of the basic unites of the structure consist of support legs, a slatted shade roof, and a large solar cell array. The solar cell arrays are used to convert sunlight into electricity, which is used to light the pavilion at night, with the excess sent into the local power grid.

The Solar Oasis Pavilions are designed to be placed into public parks, schools, corporate campuses, and/or near any public venue. The structures are meant to also function as tourist attractions in addition to making energy from the sun for the local community. The pavilions are especially attractive for use as places for special public events. Visitors can even recharge their electronic devices by plugging them into the sun, through the large solar cell arrays.

The visual design of the pavilions was selected to cultivate a new an exciting aesthetic, around the integration of alternative energy gathering systems into the built environment.
