The Black Light, an interactive kinetic light sculpture

The Black Light, an interactive kinetic light sculptures.

The Black Light is an interactive kinetic light sculpture. It consist of a twelve inch black painted wood cube, with one corner cut off at an angle. The corner is connected at the center to a small electric gear motor through a steel shaft, which is mounted inside of the cube. The steel shaft runs through a small hole in a piece of white translucent plastic that covers the opening between the corner, and the opening in the cube. A small electric light is also mounted inside of the cube, which illuminates the translucent piece of plastic. As the corner slowly rotates over the white translucent piece of plastic, it continually changes the intensity of the light. At the same time, the rotating corner continually changes the shape of the cube. The rotating corner can also be stopped at any point over the light, if a specific cube configuration and light intensity is desired.
