“Mobile Homes” For Airbnb

“Mobile Homes” For Airbnb

“Mobile Homes” For Airbnb is a conceptual proposal inspired by rental companies like Airbnb. These companies, especially Airbnb, have had great success in recent years renting very unusual places for people to stay and experience a different kind of lifestyle than they are normally used to. In fact the places that have the highest success records of renting are the most unusual.

My “Mobile Homes” For Airbnb were designed as functional art structures that symbolically play with the idea of a conventional mobile home by physically adding what appear to be legs to the bottom of a conventional house shape. These legs, that support the house high above the ground, are formed in a way that makes them appear to be moving. An access staircase is attached to the “Mobile Home” with a landing at the top. The interiors of the structures are outfitted with all of the facilities needed for two people to sleep, eat, and bathe. The structures would be prefabricated and designed to be placed almost anywhere with little or no foundations. Some could be made to function completely off of the grid.

Ideally, the “Mobile Homes” would be placed into a wide variety of amazing locations where they would purposely contrast greatly with the surrounding landscape. The hope is to create the illusion that the structures actually walked by them selves into these pristine landscapes and could just as easily walk out into another location.

I want the renters to experience what its like to live in a piece of conceptual art; a conceptual sculpture that symbolically as well physically can take them on a journey unlike any they have had before.
