The Party Pavilion

The Party Pavilion

The Party Pavilion was designed as a special place in and around which to relax and have fun. The structure is approximately 50 feet long, 48 feet wide and 15 feet tall. It is made of painted wood and fabric. The majority of the pavilion consists of curved arches, two mounted in a vertical orientation, and two horizontal. All of the arches are made of laminated painted wood, and covered with a durable white translucent fabric that is stretched across from arch to arch, separated by a series of small wood beams. There are 3 cylindrical shaped storage containers mounted onto the ends of the vertical positioned arches.

Under the canopy of arches there are two larger cylindrical shaped containers mounted onto the floor of the pavilion. These are used to store various items that are needed to facilitate party making. There are also two large worktables and a large bench mounted onto the horizontal arches. In addition there is a large picnic type table and benches mounted onto wheels that can be located anywhere on the wooden floor of the pavilion. If needed, flexible solar cells can easily be applied to the top of the pavilions highest arch in order to power the structure off of the conventional power grid.

Aesthetically, The Party Pavilion is one in a series of my projects that attempt to explore the relationship between sculpture and architecture. In this case the form of the pavilion is certainly very sculptural, while at the same time maintaining a great deal of basic party functionality.
