The Solar Electric Gathering Place Pavilion

The Solar Electric Gathering Place Pavilion

The Solar Electric Gathering Place Pavilion is a public art project designed to make electricity from the sun for the community in which it is installed. The pavilion consists of a series of bent silver colored steel tubes, twenty yellow colored spheres, ten large round solar electric collectors, nine gray colored concrete cylindrically shaped seats (that visitors can plug their electronic devices into in order to power or charge them) and a gray concrete base.

The round solar electric collectors make electricity from the sun that can be sent in to the local power grid, and/or stored in batteries that are container within the twenty yellow spheres. That electricity is used at night to light the pavilion and to power visitor’s electronic devices whenever there is not enough sunshine available.

The Solar Electric Gathering Place Pavilion is part of a series of projects that explore ways in which to incorporate alternative energy gathering and storage facilities into public art. In this way, public art can function in a meaningful way toward the fight against global climate change.
