Invasion

Invasion

Invasion is a public art proposal for a memorial for the victims of the Covid pandemic. The conceptual design is based on the idea of a normally ordered human fabricated world (symbolically represented in the design as a white square) being invaded and disrupted by the Covid virus, symbolically represented in the design by nine red arrows that have penetrated one side of the square.. The square and the arrows are mounted on top of a large wedge shaped base. A series of benches are formed into the bottom of the wedge and around it’s perimeter on the top of a large platform.

The hope is that when the pandemic is over and/or under control, people will feel comfortable using the memorial as a public gathering place where they can come together to share their stories about how the pandemic affected their lives. Meanwhile, the Invasion memorial would stand as a conceptual symbolic reminder of our human vulnerability.

The white square and red arrows would be made of painted steel, and concrete would be used to form the rest of the monument. The ideal location for the installation would be in a public park.
