The Zigzag Pavilion

The Zigzag Pavilion

The Zigzag Pavilion was designed as a special shaded retreat place, to be located in the high desert near Santa Fe New Mexico. The cone shaped structure is made of sustainably grown and preserved painted wood. The basic wood components are 2-inch by 6-inch boards, cut to various lengths. Each board is connected together end to end with metal plates that are screwed to the boards and folded to the appropriate angle, forming different zigzag layers. Each of the layers are stacked together and connected with metal pins, forming a very strong structural composite.

Each of the many layers of the pavilion were placed together randomly with no preconceived notion of the final outcome.
