Entering the Metaverse

Entering the Metaverse

“Entering the Metaverse” is a series of photomontages that are responding to that new world through the inspiration of graphics normally used to illustrate weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornados, and hurricanes. In these weather related graphics, usually various kinds of structures and/or other symbolic elements are positioned around symbols of the phenomena. This is done in order to display various real time characteristics that are important to forecast potential dangers to the local population.

In the “Entering the Metaverse” series of photomontages, thunderstorms, tornados, and hurricanes have been replaced with images of people. These people are surrounded by various kinds of symbolic graphics that appear to be referring to certain kinds of computer generated environments, through which they are able to enter the Metaverse. In some cases the people have been visually altered, suggesting evidence of a transformational stage, through which they need to experience in order to enter the Metaverse. In every case, the hope is that the viewers of these photomontages will be inspired to make up stories in their own minds about what these strange images are as they contemplate the meaning of the symbolic elements that appear to be providing an entry for the people into the Metaverse.
