Here is a selection of my interactive and transformable environments that have lead the way toward new kinds of spaces. My objective is to develop these ideas toward a goal of self assembling robotic environments.

The M-house, a modular, prefabricated, transformable building system that can change its shape to accommodate changing needs, built in 2000.
The Transformation House.
Each of the segments rotate around a central living space in different ways to catch the sun, wind, rain, and the best views.
The Growth Accelerator, a computer controlled robotic growth chamber for plants, built in 1987.
The plants automatically move in and out of an insulated chamber from night to day in order to conserve energy.
The Rotating Radius Pavilion.
The different segments can be manually or automatically rotated around a center utility column in order to transform the shape and/or function of the structure.
The Fabric Transformation Pavilion.
Different colored pieces of fabric are connected together like a roll of film. The rolls of different colored fabric can be automatically woven through the support frame to change the color, texture, and/or opacity of the pavilion.
The Garage Door Pavilion is made of a series of support frames and garage doors that can be automatically opened and closed to change the form and/or function of the pavilion.
The Malleable Retreat House.
All of the slatted panels are hinged to a support frame and can be opened or closed automatically in order to change the shape of the structure to accommodate changing needs.
The Interactive Transformable Plaza.
All of the hinged slatted panels on the plaza can be moved up or down in order to form different kinds of public art spaces.
The Web Shaped Observation Tower.
People on the Internet can change the shape of this structure in real time by moving the hinged panels up or down.
The Transmutation Pavilion.
Each of the large curved panels can be automatically moved around on the support frame in order to change the shape and/or function of the pavilion.
The Space Time Transformation Footbridge changes its shape in different ways based on the movements of the people walking through it.
The Entangled Pavilion
The shape of this pavilion can be changed by moving parts of a small model of it, which is mounted inside of the pavilion.
The Rotating Radius House.
The shape and/or function of this house can be changed by manually or automatically rotating the large curved panels around a glass enclosed central living space.
The Folding Landscape Pavilion.
The Shape and/or function of this pavilion can be changed manually or automatically by folding the triangular shaped panels in different ways along the support frame.
The Malleable Space Pavilion.
A visitor to this public art pavilion can create their own personal space within it, by moving the white beams back and forth through the two support frames.
The Sliced House Pavilion.
A visitor to this public art structure can change its shape and/or function by manually or automatically moving the various segments back and forth along the guide tracks.
The Interactive Fragmented Meandering House.
A visitor to this public art installation can manually or automatically move the four sections of this house around on tracks into various altered configurations.
