Free Radical Sculptures are part of a series of sculptures designed as proposals for large painted steel public art projects. Their creation was inspired by a series abstract photomontages also called Free Radicals.
The Free Radical photomontages were partially made from images of some of my sculptures and architectural models, along with various geometric graphic elements.
Photographs were taken of some of my sculptures and architectural model with a digital camera. Those images were placed into my computer and isolated from their original backgrounds. In most cases the isolated images were then manipulated in various ways with my computer. Usually the original images of my sculptures and architectural models were manipulated in Photoshop with a warping tool. Those warped images allow with others that were not manipulated, and/or manipulated images of other things such as people and landscapes, were placed together with various geometric graphic elements into the finale photomontages.
The Free Radical Sculptures were also designed with some of the same elements used in the photomontages. All of them feature abstract organic forms and colors, assembled around various geometric support frames.
