Reinventing The Home
Michael Jantzen’s Reinventing The Home is a series of photomontages that play with the idea of reimagining the home, through the manipulation of images of what most people would recognize as conventional places in which people live.
Many people sent Michael digital photos of their homes, and he has photographed many of them himself. All of these photos were placed into his computer where he isolated the structures from the rest of the surrounding environment. The isolated structures were then digitally manipulated in various ways in order to create new structures, based on the original forms.
The new structures were then placed back into the surrounding environments, in exactly the same locations they were in, in the original photos. Finally, people and in some cases animals were added to the photos. Often the added people were the original owners of the homes, and/or their pets.
The final altered photos were sent back to the people who originally sent the unaltered photos to Michael, for display in their conventional homes.
