The Dream-Scape is a conceptual art installation proposal designed to symbolically celebrate the act of dreaming. A black cube is located at the center of a large black square plaza subdivided into a grid 104 smaller square segments.
Each of the 104 segments are actually the top portions of rectangular columns that can be raised up and down out of the plaza into many different configurations, with small electric motors.
In order to interact with the installation, a participant must climb the ladder mounted on the outside of the cube, and enter it through a trapdoor located on the top. Once inside he or she will find a comfortable bed on which to sleep.
Once asleep, sensors in the pillow will record the participants electrical brain wave patterns while they are dreaming. These electrical signals are then sent to the 104 electric motors, which respond to the pattern of electrical activity in a corresponding way, and move the rectangular columns up out of the plaza into a specific pattern that are based on the dreams of the participant. Each participant would generate a different Dream-Scape, every time they sleep in the cube.
When the participants wakes up, they have to climb through their symbolic dream scape in order to escape.
