So this is what i've been doing lately here at the IAAC:
Contemporary Phenomena: Ways of registering:
Anna Pla Catala
Basically in this seminar we have to recognize urban contemporary phenomena and register it.
For registering it we been analyzing several architectural publications from the last 30 years as:
1. LEARNING FROM LAS VEGAS [by Robert Venturi + Denise Scott-Brown]
2. HYPERCATALUNYA [actar]
3. ENVISIONING INFORMATION [Edward Tufte]
4. MADE IN TOKYO [Junzo Kuroda, Atelier Bow-Wow]
5. COSTA IBERICA [MVRDV]
6. METACITY-DATATOWN [MVRDV]
7. FARMAX [MVRDV]
8. DELIRIOUS NEW YORK [Koolhaas]
9. MUTATIONS [Koolhaas + others, ACTAR]
10. PROJECT ON THE CITY 1 [Koolhaas + Harvard GSD]
11. PROJECT ON THE CITY 2 - SHOPPING [Koolhaas + Harvard GSD]
12. CONTENT [OMA/AMO + Koolhaas]
13. LOS ANGELES [Reyner Banham]
14.THE METAPOLIS DICTIONARY OF ARCHITECTURE [actar]
15. POINTS AND LINES [Stan Allen]
16. LEARNING FROM THE AMERICAN LANDSCAPE [James Corner]
17. EXPLOSION OF THE CITY
18. INHABITING THE WORLD
Each student takes care of a single book analysis but we discuss them between all and give our impressions about them, from the content of the book, to the way they r structured to the way they represent information, the book as an object of design, etc., I had to took charge of PROJECT ON THE CITY 2 - SHOPPING, and is funny to realize how much money Rem has been doing repeating himself in so many books (as representations and specially on content and topics) but that doesn't mean this books are or not good.

And now actually what we are doing is starting to analyze and recognize any contemporary phenomena that influences the urban context/landscape, some of the topics we can adress [plus others we might find]: Corridors, Tourism, Mobility, Domestic Space, Museum/Monument, Skyscraper-Structure, Core-city.block-building, Region: new urban domains/regimes [territory], Landscape: fields, ecosystems, etc.
some examples of the interior of the book and the way information is displayed
so far so good and all discussions are always very interesting, Anna knows a lot and encourage the discussion between all and we all have space to show our opinions and visions...
i should post some images from the pinups soon...
and now wait for P.O.C. 3 'Lagos' and more junkspace
Tales and Adventures of my time at the IaaC when this was in it's early years. Feel free to contact me for more reference, in any case i would advice you to enroll here.
