Saint Louis, MO
Through critical thinking, research, and cutting-edge programs, the Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design at Washington University in St. Louis gives students the means to improve our world. Disciplinary depth is the essential ingredient in the interdisciplinary collaboration necessary to effectively address the complex environmental and social issues facing our world. Our degree programs in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design center around four areas of expertise: discipline-based design practice, technology and the arts, social engagement, and resilient cities. We focus on environmental ethics, historical and global perspectives, innovation, and technological fluency, providing students with experiences that will allow them to be leaders in their fields. With dual degrees offered in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design and joint degrees with construction management, social work, business, and computer science, design becomes the synthetic context for transdisciplinary knowledge through research and practice. We also offer an MS in Advanced Architectural Design and an MS in Architectural Studies (with concentrations in architectural pedagogy and in the history and culture of architecture).
The Graduate School of Architecture & Urban design is part of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, a leader in architecture, art, and design
education. We are advancing our fields through innovative research and
creative practice, excellence in teaching, a world-class university art
museum, and a deep commitment to addressing the social and environmental
challenges of our time. Through the work of our students, faculty, and
alumni, we are striving to create a more just, sustainable, humane, and
beautiful world. The School encompasses four academic units—the College of
Architecture, Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design,
College of Art, and Graduate School of Art—and the Mildred Lane Kemper
Art Museum, each of which has its own unique history.
