After I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a MArch in 2018, I have learned a lot in a professional workplace and have successfully transitioned from a conceptual design student to an entry-level designer. From the experience through 10 different projects, working from the initial concepts to hands-on construction documentations, observing the coding and identifying the pitfalls to avoid, collaborating with my colleagues while communicating with the project manager, I am confident in my capability in project development. Aside from tackling the tasks and challenges at work, I am able to balance my job and my own career development. In the recent half year, I have been certified for both LEED GA and LEED AP BD+C, which gives me confidence and reassurance in my career. I have also been preparing for the ARE exams. I can’t wait to better myself to a higher professional standard.
I enjoy doing the hands-on and learning the practical, but I can also get crazy about architectural competitions. Rules and regulations make the project workable, but breaking the rules can create new landmarks. New software may make the workflow efficient, but getting back to handmade physical models may bring new perspectives. As a learning architect, I am fully aware of the different choices in the design processes, and I prefer to believe that there are various ways to do the design, each of them unique to different projects. I will be grateful to have the mentorship of your firm and do all I can to support your creative endeavors.
