Jinan Lixia TOD Mixed Use Competition

This was a large-scale urban planning and architectural design competition with a total of 11 parcels of land, 9 plots fronting Gongye South Road with another 2 separate parcels on the West. The design aims to create a varied yet integrated urban image along the entire elevation of Gongye South road. It is positioned as a high-tech innovation hub and a future intelligent city. The challenge was to create meaningful connections between various parcels yet have unique products that can be sold to different enterprises as their office headquarters. Four large parcels formed the main hubs on the East and West, which are linked to three subway lines, forming an underground and above ground pedestrian and commercial network. The inspiration for the buildings came from Jinan ‘Spring city’ as ideas emerged and flowed spontaneously from the ground up, and social networking/ event spaces were crystallized as transparent volumes within the building forms.
