The project is based in the newly masterplanned area in Yuhang district of Hangzhou, designed by Foster and Partners. The competition calls for a design of a district Library, and a Community Centre comprising of an activity centre for all ages and a women's and children care centre. The brief asked for a symmetrical building within the green belt, respecting the central green axis, and having a central space for citizens to gather, and a basement linked to the subway stations. Our design was a shortlisted winner in the Top 5 entries out of over 20 entries, with technical points coming in 3rd place.
This project aims to create an ecologically friendly city landmark with extensive connections to the neighborhood and office complexes, becoming a unique highlight of the Future Science City green axis. It will blend business, culture, and entertainment functions, providing comprehensive services to residents and visitors.
Planning Structure
The planning gives Future Science City a vision of the future that integrates nature, technology, and humanity into a three-core concept. The project is located at the important node at the southern end of Xianhe Central Park on the new axis line of Hangzhou Future Science City, serving as the core of the city's green lung and symbolizing the transformative development of Future Science City.
Design Strategy
The design strategy is based on the concept of "infinite interweaving," making the architecture a carrier that interlaces the city with nature, and nature with residents. The architecture will guide the flow of people and activities, becoming a super cultural complex that is open, integrated, symbiotic, respectful of nature, and organically composite. Specific design strategies include: Humanisitc Interweaving, Natural Interweaving, and Technology Enhancement.
