My name is Matthew Messner, I am new here at the Architnect School Blog. hello
As the wind starts to blow out of the north down the third coast, here in Chicago, another semester of Architecture school enters it's final frantic stages.
Remnants of Meghan Hade's model building process.
This was my first semester at the University of Illinois Chicago in the M.Arch program. I find myself reflecting back on the semester that seemed to fly by. It has been a good ride so far. The feeling of something growing is in the air here. Talk is beginning to turn to action, and it is an exciting time to be in Chicago and at the School of Architecture at UIC.
As I am getting a little bit of a late start on this blog there is a lot to cover. I will try and catch up the world on what is being done and said around here.
I am going to keep this post short but Stay Tuned for a great deal of interesting content.
I will leave you with this. A video I made in the first few weeks of school in an attempt to capture what studio means. Take a look

nice work, can't wait to see what is next.
cheers
Great! It reminds me of myself 31 years ago in grad school at UWM.
still sitting on those unfingcomfortable stools. the more things change.
Nice to see the Netcsh building in full use! I miss it! :(
Cool vid, may I ask which project(s) you guys were working on in the video?
I'm kinda surprised to see so much hand drafting there, reminds of sophomore studio back in 2000-01 at UW-Milwaukee, before the school put a desktop computer at every studio workstation (undergrad sophomores all the way through grad student studios). The only studios that may still have some hand drafting requirements are the sophomore studios, though they mostly use Microstation now, and the 1st year grad students that are in the 3 1/2 yr program.
Anyway, post some projects when you get the chance, it's always interesting to see a combination of what students are working on with how they produce the final product.
