    summary.

After my first week here at McCarty Hosaple McCarty, I have already completed multiple tasks. On Monday, the other Interior Designer, Natalie, and I worked on renderings in Photoshop for an upcoming meeting. I spent a large portion of the day working on the renders but I also spent a lot of time meeting new people in the office. On Tuesday, I was handed keys to the building, touched up the renderings from Monday, and spent some time teaching myself Sketchup. I left a little earlier than usual because everyone had gone to a meeting and there wasn’t anything for me to do. Wednesday morning, I spent some time working on a new build that is still in the Schematic Design phase. I helped Barbara, my supervisor, work on a Budget Sheet for the FFE package of the project. This was a really great task; she explained how even though it’s a rough estimate of what will actually end up in the space, it really helps the client and the design team to get a better understanding on budget and just how much the client is willing to spend, or not spend based on a line item review. After the spreadsheet was finalized, we went to the Lunch and Learn here at the office. It was an interesting presentation on coatings for steel. Although this specific sector of the materials market isn’t really something I had ever thought about before, I will be able to retain and use the information I learned from it for years to come within the profession. After lunch, I started drawing the most recent design option for the project I had recently completed the spreadsheet for. I worked on drawing in that floor plan for the rest of the day and for most of the morning on Thursday. Thursday afternoon, Natalie and I went to lunch with the rep for Patcraft. When we got back, Natalie, and Barbara and I had a long conversation about Interior Design and how it has changed over the years, and it was really great to talk with them and be engaged in the professional conversation while still being a student. For the rest of the day Thursday, I pulled perspectives from a Revit Model for the office’s renovation. Friday, I priced a couple of fabrics that were pulled for a project and I also worked with Revit Schedules for the Office Renovation.

Dave, the Vice President, explained to me that their organization is not necessarily normal.

Natalie has been absolutely awesome in welcoming me to McCarty in this first week. She has answered my multitude of questions and has been so very patient with me learning the ropes. Natalie will be leaving McCarty here in the next two weeks to work at a Residential Construction/Home Builder. Natalie works alongside Barbara to produce drawings, pull finishes, renders, etc. She does it all!
