The landscape design developed by PLANT Architect for University of Toronto Mississauga accompanies interior and exterior renovations to the William G. Davis Meeting Place, the first academic building encountered upon arrival at UTM. Set in an open landscape with views overlooking a picturesque rainwater pond, the design creates a memorable and welcoming identity for this point of arrival. At the same time, the new landscape sensitively integrates the building into its suburban campus context, in ways that are responsive to, and respectful of, UTM’s spectacular Credit River Valley site. Landscape improvements include a patio dining terrace, a new landscaped front entry, and a terraced seating area within a ceremonial space. The plan includes the redesign of campus paths and amenities to AODA standards, the restoration of landscape areas with native tree, shrub, and meadow plantings, and improved drop-off and circulation along the building’s entrance frontage.
