PLANT Architect in joint venture with Perkins+Will Canada led the team that won the international competition to revitalize Nathan Phillips Square at Toronto City Hall. This project involved a large, complex stakeholder group.
In addition to activating the site edges and transforming City Hall’s podium into Toronto’s largest publicly accessible green roof, our team relocated, rebuilt and redesigned the Peace Garden. We integrated sculpture, landscape, custom furniture, lighting, the relocated pavilion and paving to create a public meeting place. A new reflecting pool flanked by sloped planted seating creates a place for quiet contemplation while also allowing for large community gatherings and rallies.
