PLANT Architect in joint venture with Perkins+Will Canada led the team that won the two-stage, international competition to revitalize the iconic Nathan Phillips Square at Toronto City Hall.
To repair and improve upon this integral public space, we directed the relocation, rebuilding, and redesign of key elements such as the Peace Garden, Skate Pavilion, and Queen Street Forecourt, as well as the design of new built and planted elements including the Podium Roof Garden, Children’s Playground, Theatre, Stairs, Fountains, and Bike and Visitor Kiosk. The aim was to restore the Square to a condition in keeping with its cultural status while creating a more stimulating public space.
The revitalization of the Queen Street West and Bay Street streetscapes involve widening the street and developing a new tree-scape, paving, lush year-round perennial plantings, and lighting.
