... a cache of biological samples appeared through the criminal networks of Mumbai, in the vain hope that it might provide new marketable narcotic opportunities. The collective drive and expertise of the refugees managed to turn theses genetically-engineered fungal samples into a new type of infrastructure - providing heat, light and building material for the refugees. Dharavi rapidly evolved it's own micro-economy based around the mushrooms. — tobiasrevell.com

Looks like a photomontage, but I loved the story, context and the passages to informal economies, immigration, conflicts, globalism and so on. Well done.
This is amazing. Love it.
we must invest in this! the possibilities are endless: these miracle mushrooms could power high-speed rail, electric cars, our air conditioners ('tis a hot one today) and the very internets i'm righting on write now!
finally, an end to big oil oppression (and .. our changing climate?!?) !!
check out his website and his flickr account...."New Mumbai 2045
The residents of New Mumbai, a city of refugees, have managed to cultivate large fungal growths to solve infrastructure problems.
This work was presented as a performance presentation of a meeting of scientists from the biotech company whom the refugees had stolen the technology."
this is fictional project and part of his presentation expecting his work like these images in 2045.......
burying your head in the sand and calling this a 'fictional project' is exactly the kind of do-nothing denialist behavior i would expect from someone funded by big oil. just who do you represent, timiliam? who pays your internet bills to spew your propaganda? you can live in the past but for me i'm focusing on making this magical mushroom mystery mine (and yours) for the good of humanity. lower sea levels here we come! FORWARD.
This project is a great example of speculative fiction.
Whether the biological energy road leads to mushrooms is yet to be determined. Fiction starts dialogue.
This is an amazing article and I hope not fantasy as some have alluded.
The 2nd photograph however is not from Mumbai, it is from Hong Kong. I recognized this almost immediately, having lived in HK for many years.
The text on the side of the opposing building are Chinese characters followed by English and reads; Fa Yuen Street Municipal Services Building.
This building is located in Mong Kok, just north of Kowloon, in Hong Kong.
You can find it via Google Earth.
There are many traveler hostels located in this area, which include many travelers and business people from India, as well as suspected Triad gang activity as it is the most densely populated area on earth. What is the connection here? Indian travelers or the drug connection via triads? or both?
the connection is both china and india are waaaaaay ahead of los estados unidos but i am confident our soon-to-be re-elected green president obama will invest mucho green in this technology of the future which is here but big oil is obstructing its implementation in our economy i was probing mushrooms all weekend and have made great progress soon will be off the grid and hey it's already cooling a bit outside you're welcome
no, this isn't about obama or china and india being ahead of the US.
Very, very well done. Especially the movie. Nice work.
