I became interested in community site planning and Landscape design from my time growing up on military bases around the country. When I was designing a Co-housing community for my thesis I referred often to my child hood memories of a community with a common focus and what makes it thrive; one being a common area indoors and outside to gather, garden and play/recreate. I've also been very interested in the relationship of the private vs. public realms when planning where to place homes to each other and how to strike a healthy balance for both. Parking is also a necessary evil that I think we either ignore as being an integral aspect of development or overlook as its potential for alternate uses such as carports becoming Screened Porches at least half the year.
Recently I've gotten involved with master planning larger estates and how to address the needs of the new owners while also protecting the natural environment.
