This project is on the cliff of Rhinecliff NY overlooking the Roundout Lighthouse of the Hudson River which was what defined the focus of the design of the additions to the front that were oriented to capture the beautiful Hudson River views. Three concept schemes were presented but ultimately the rooms of the existing plan stayed in place and grew 6' - 8' + feet beyond the original volumes which required some structural gymnastics.
Because the family had outgrown the original home that typically had at least 9 family members at home at one time. There was also a large Gathering Room added to the rear that was terminated with a large screed porch over looking a vernal pool. A large stone fireplace connected the two and was anchored with another shared fireplace between a Rec Room and Covered Terrace with all the stone coming from the rock blasted to accommodate the large addition.
The original home was very porus and so was the renovated version with many entries and wide openings to create a seamless indoor / outdoor relationship that included a extended loggia overlooking the Pool to the river side with an arbor heavy enough to grow grapes that will provide shade from the harsh Western Sun over the Hudson. The largest additions to the Hudson Side grew the Dining Room and Master Bedroom 8' with large custom windows centered on the light house.
