This project was my first for Bald Head Island and resulted from a competition that they sponsored for a standardized building type that could be duplicated throughout the island in various sites and configurations.
It was originally based on three different 16' x 40' prefabricated boxes. One that was the entry & two Bedrooms, the second level the Living, Dining & Kitchen and the third two additional Bedrooms with a common play, study landing.
The modular concept got hatched because the boxes grew two feet in both directions to appeal to the market demographic for a harbor side home. The built photographs reflect that project and the drawings are the original competition submission.
I was lucky enough to also specify the exterior and interior materials and finishes.
Status: Built
Location: BALD HEAD ISLAND, NC
My Role: CONCEPT, ILLUSTRATION & CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS SUPERVISION DONE BY 2SL DESIGNS
Additional Credits: This Duplex Town Home was designed in response to an invitation to submit a concept for for a competition for a modular system for housing that could be reconfigured in various ways throughout the island. It was the winning design and I contracted with 2SL design to produce the construction drawings. The Asymmetrical orientation between the two houses was built. The symmetrical plan was not. The diagram indicates how the boxes could be oriented and combined.
