Eiffel Tower Extension is a Fake!
News of Paris-based Serero Architects' installation at the top of the tower has been declared a hoax by La Societe d'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE).


Bustler and Archinect reported on this story on March 17th, which then lead to countless reports from other blogs... eventually making way into newspapers such as The New York Times, The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph.

interesting, I thought the first time I saw it that it was just a proposal, then the blog-o-sphere got a little nutty with it.

That was simply impossible from the beginning. Reminds me that story about a lighted piramyd for the top of Keops to commemorate the new millenium. But I think that one had more ground.

i am not totally surprised when the story went out ppl were indicating it was a hoax, and when you looked at the Societe d'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel website there was no mention of this or any competition.
anyway i liked the scheme and thought it was a clever and fitting addition - so a pity really.
