It is also neat that they are using carbon fiber body to make it light and not overly structural yet still strong enough to serve as a viewing platform.

i like the whole idea of this ephemeral addition, especially because the tower itself was not meant to be permanent. over on other boards people are crying out how its horrible to touch such a monument and how ugly it is. It recalls what Parisians first thought of the tower anyways. I also like to see generative design techniques being used without it becoming some blobby unbuildable thing. I think this will be great!

I dig it - the tower was the first cantelievered truss tower in pig iron. I havent heard of any fulley cantelievered carbon fiberous structures - seem to go together.

I also likes it figurative design.

not that i'm exactly wearing my critical thinking cap here, but i think it looks rediculous. the elegant, tapering shape will now be abruptly interrupted. it does say that it is "temporarily bolted" however. does this mean they will remove it?

Personally, i think the addition is elegant and gossamer like?

I did only just notice the note that this will be temporary, which i think is for me even more of a reason for it to be constructed.

i like it. i think it's cool. no inherent issue with what it does to the tower from a design standpoint.

i just don't know why anyone would go to the expense to do it, exactly. don't people come to the eiffel tower in droves anyway? isn't there a better use of these resources - whether it's to increase traffic/interest/economic activity somewhere else that's less trafficked or to answer some other real problem?

the competition has been a great exercise. exhibit all the boards somewhere near the tower, showing all of the great ideas...and call it done.

I like it, but here's keeping fingers crossed, that it will actually look as ephemeral as intended to be. It is easy to imagine it be getting heavy and overstructured and turning into an eyesore

and I like it... the original Eiffel Tower was a direct attack to the established beaux arts intelligentsia from Paris and this is a direct attack to the now-ultra-orthodox, so beloved, silhouette of the tower... in the end, it's the same strategy but with 120 years of difference, and the plan of this new artifact is as symmetrical as the tower itself, so where's the problem..
