For many years an older smaller KFC restaurant with outdoor patio seating occupied this prominent corner of downtown San Mateo. This new 2,800 square foot restaurant with additional parking and a drive-thru lane replaced it. An additional lot was merged that provided the area required for parking and automobile stacking for the new drive-thru. This one of a kind design is unique to accommodate both the site restrictions and the City’s design requirements. The prominent facades of the building face the corner, the adjacent CalTrain tracks and the downtown. The dining room features a vaulted pyramid ceiling that allows natural daylight to flood the interior and reconnects patrons to the spirit of the original patio dining. It has seating for 65. The addition of indoor seating and a drive-thru lane has increased business dramatically.
