Diagnostic Centre Institute Frühwald & Partner

For the waiting room of an X-ray institute in St. Pölten, destilat developed an interior with recognition value: To soften the hall-like impression, a lamellar wooden structure was inserted, dividing the elongated room into three zones. Slightly modified, these wooden slats are used as wall coat racks.

The loose seating was designed to be very comfortable so that the predominantly elderly patients can easily stand up or support themselves on the armrests: In the middle segment, there is the characteristic shell chair by the designer couple Ray and Charles Eames; to the left and right of it, there is a Danish chair with bars in light blue, reminiscent of a classic rocking chair - the favourite place of many elderly people.

Blue in various nuances is the tone-setting colour in the room structure. In terms of design, it is derived from the patterned wallpaper, which on closer inspection can be recognised as a repeat of X-ray images. The meandering lines of the newspaper rack on the wall also pick up on the work in the diagnostic centre - it is formally based on an electrocardiogram. The result is an interior design that offers comfortable furniture, encourages people to look closely and thus makes the waiting time feel shorter.
