My classmates and I graduated on Friday, in a grand morning ceremony with the Governator speaking, and then again at a "satellite" ceremony just for the School of Architecture. Literally I cannot believe how quickly the time has flown since I got here less than two years ago. Especially since last August....I feel like I blinked and it was May, and there I was in my funny gown and hood and hat. It's a strange and slightly scary feeling to be freed from academia again.
But enough about that, here are some photos.
Here is our flag, just before we're about to process into our seats for the main "all-school" ceremony.
The processional of school flags.
My view of the podium.
Arnold "The Governator" Schwarzenegger giving us a very funny commencement speech. Yes, he did say "I'll be back" at least 3 times.
A sea of graduates behind me. There were about 4500 students who graduated from USC on Friday!!!
My fellow Master of Building Science graduates, minus one, just before our ceremony.
Some of my M.Arch. friends.
More of my M.Arch. friends, + moi.
Dean Ma giving his speech at our School of Architecture ceremony. Just after this I gave my speech. Later, a total stranger told me that my speech was "the only one he could relate to", which I thought was nice!

....So that's pretty much it. I received two awards at the ceremony: the Alpha Rho Chi Medal for Leadership and the Master of Building Science Outstanding Thesis Award for the GreenDesignCollective and my thesis work related to it. Those were unexpected! But I am quite grateful for both.
Later when I have some time to calm down, I'll try to figure out what my future plans are so I can actually tell you about them. :o)

Congrats Emily! My fellow NJSoA peeps and I graduated on Saturday Morning in a gigantic to-do at the Prudential Center in Newark. There were about 100 or so Bachelors Architects and about 30 Graduate Architects, and probably about 1500 Engineers. I didn't get any medals though. Nice work.
emily, CONGRATS!!!!
can you share your speech with us????? please!!!!
Thanks PodZilla! There were a ton of engineers in my school graduating too....I don't know exactly how many, but they took up about 25 pages in the program while the School of Architecture only took up one page!
TK! I was going to post the speech as a podcast as soon as we got it extracted from the iPod, which hasn't quite happened yet. Would you like me to post the text in the meantime?
Are you going on to the new PhD in architecture/building science, Emily? Or is it up and out for you?
whooo hooo congrats Emily... and cool lay, if only I could remember that quip about lays and getting laid... damn bad memory
nonetheless congrats again... it seems like yesterday you were packing a van, driving cross country and introducing us to *m

citizen > nope I'm not doing the new PhD program! I'm working on getting a job but if that doesn't work out then we'll see.

If I haven't already said so, many, many congrats Emily. I cannot tell you just how proud I am of you. OK, must stop before I get any more verklempt than I already am looking at those photos.
Way to go, Emily! Congratulations!!
It really does seem like yesterday since you moved to your cute downtown LA apartment which turned out to be LESS THAN A BLOCK away from the Archinect headquarters. How cool is that! :D
What's next?
Thanks Alex! It was very serendipitous that I moved to this particular location, huh?
I'm not sure what's next yet. I will know more after Wednesday, and as soon as I know, I will let you all know :o)
Emily, big congrats!! Alpha Rho Chi medal, that's hot! I remember the USC graduation very well. I had the honor of being the flag bearer for the class, but thankfully I didn't have to give a speech. I'm sure that must have been a sweet honor for you.
best of luck to you!
