The Architects Foundation recognizes ten women for their expertise, community building, and leadership within the industry by awarding them with the Sho-Ping Chin Women's Leadership Summit Grant. To increase the support of women in architecture, the award was established in 2017 to honor the life and work of architect, leader, and equity advocate Sho-Ping Chin, FAIA. Beyond her leadership as Principal at the Boston-based architecture firm Payette, she founded the inaugural AIA Women's Leadership Summit, which first took place in 2009.
"In 2017, following Sho-Ping’s untimely passing, a group of colleagues, family members, and friends created a memorial fund in her name focused on supporting the development of future women leaders in architecture by helping cover travel and registration costs to attend the conference," shared The Architects Foundation.
The grant program focuses on applicants who are mid-career professionals looking to advance in leadership roles at their firm, organization, or practice. In addition, recipients will receive funding to attend the annual Women's Leadership Summit, which will take place in Silicon Valley from September 28-October 1. A total of 44 female architects and industry leaders will be speaking at this year's event, including keynote speakers Dr. Molly Wright Steenson, Hiba Bhatty, Lakisha Ann Woods, Zainab Salbi, and Jeanne Gang.
