The Iceland Northern Lights Rooms competition tasked participants with envisioning a guest house concept for visitors to privately observe and directly engage with this unusual geographic setting. The chosen site, located adjacent to Mývatn lake, spans across about 970,000 square feet of Iceland's northeast region. Competition entries were prompted to design a building complex featuring a series of separate, detached guest bedrooms scattered across the site. The key attraction of the each room would be an unobstructed view of the sky allowing guest to view the Northern Lights from the comfort of their own beds.
