Sol LeWitt, one of America's most significant visual artists, died this morning in New York City at the age of 78. The modest artist, an innovator in minimalism and conceptual art, eschewed fame and celebrity. "Ideas," said LeWitt, "cannot be owned. They belong to whomever understands them."
