Burning Man’s official 2024 Temple for Black Rock City has been unveiled as an optimistic design rising to a height of 70 feet and shrowded in a woven latticed screen cladding with repeated neo-Gothic archways that carry a metaphor of togetherness amidst a backdrop of global conflict.
The design took its charge from notable past iterations from David Best and will be called 'Temple of Together' as denoted by its repeated motif of hands touching in unison. Burner Caroline “Glitter Kitty” Ghosn was the Lead Artist chosen for her design, which is inspired by Lebanese Khaizaran chairs and her battle with multi-generational trauma and illness.
Organizers say: “We look for a design that is novel, yet still fits within the Burning Man Temple tradition of being a treasured sanctuary for all. The design needs to have a strong visual impact while also serving as a space to encapsulate the full range of our community’s experience and offerings. Along with selecting a strong concept and design, we are equally interested in the lead artist and crew. The Temple is the heart of our city, and it requires a thoughtful leader with strong moral character.”
Ghosn is the first solo BIPOC female designer of the festival’s temple. The last iteration was designed by Ela Madej and Reed Finlay. Volunteer builders will help her and Lead Architect Maissa Sader execute the structure on-site over a period of two-and-half weeks, as has been a tradition since 2000. Organizers say Ghosn was chosen particularly for her prescient ability to heed the festival's carbon-negative Temple mandate for 2030.
This year’s Burning Man festival is open in Nevada's Black Rock Desert from August 25th to September 2nd and will be attended by up to 80,000 people.

In the heart of the desert, where once spirits soared, A gathering started, a philosophy explored. Burning Man it was called, a place for souls to unite, In the glow of the fire, under stars bright.
But alas, how ironic, the tale now unfolds, As the rich and the woke, their true colors behold. Tech bros and elitists, with pockets deep, Descend upon the playa, where dreams once did sleep.
They come in their masses, with drugs in hand, To party and revel, across the hot sand. No longer about spirit, but status and show, Leaving behind them a destructive flow.
The desert, once pure, now bears the scars, Of excess and ego, of opulent cars. Trash left behind, in their careless spree, A mockery of the values, once held in glee.
Yet they feign concern, they put on a show, Hiring "architects", for all to know. But their actions speak louder, than words ever could, Their hearts not in it, their intentions not good.
Oh Burning Man, what irony you've become, A playground for the privileged, a circus, a hum. Soiled by the ones who claim to care, But in truth, leave nothing but despair.
Looks good!
