MAD Architects is making their U.S. residential debut with the unveiling of 8600 Wilshire, which is scheduled to break ground along Wilshire Boulevard in the one and only Beverly Hills this October. Described by the architects like an oasis-like 'hillside village', the stark-white glass villas and lush greenery can easily appeal to the well-to-do 90210 crowd as California's drought persists.
With a site area of 25,900 sq.ft, the mixed-use project consists of a cluster of 18 residential units nestled above a lush green commercial building covered in a "living wall" of California-native succulents and vines. The project 'mimics a small sinuous white hill' so as to complement the rolling landscape of Beverly Hills.
From the street, the villas appear opaque but reveal a transparent façade that faces toward the private garden and neighboring residential units inside. Housing types include three townhouses, five villas, two studios, and eight condominiums, including individual balcony-patios and -- interestingly enough -- a 'water feature flowing gently to a secondary reflecting pool in the lobby below. The undulating 'living wall' creates a natural green-screen of privacy for residents.

Already done 30 years ago, a few blocks south, and (arguably) better.
FOG's Wosk Residence (1984)
citizen, that's one of my favorite Gehry projects and surprisingly very few people under fifty know about it. do you know if she's still alive and lives there?
Mine too, Orhan. Every time I drive east on Olympic I look for it. I don't have any idea if she's still around, though.
That period is my favorite for his work, especially this, Santa Monica Place and the Spiller duplex.
as a student, i remember when they were framing the spiller res. good one for sure with set back and great use of basic materials. whenever i give a gehry tour to friends from other places, i take them there, to his own house, gemini gel.
sm place was a really great little mall with beautiful light and a small fountain. when they remodelled, it was gone.
all that was wonderful to learn from.
