Eisenman: why this year and not before? what has he done this year? the Berlin thing does not merit a Pritzker. Not that the price has ever operated based on what happened that year.
My feeling is it's either about 'momentum' accumulating [hence Koolhaas] or 'wait we've forgotten about that guy' [hence Venturi -where they forgot Scott Brown]....although also it sometimes seems like a statement [Zaha is great but why her that year and not before? let's pick a woman. Murcutt is great but why him then and not before? statement against starchitects for added credibility]
My bet, momentum theory: Thom Mayne.
...and I'd be happy because i think he's cool. no archibabble about it.
My wish, oversight theory: Kazuyo Sejima. Because it should've been her instead of Hadid, not because they're women but because her work has more thought and less glitz, and that's what should be commended, instead of the starchitect system.
The Pritzker Prize committee seem to be on a global search. Looking @ the last few winners this year it could be Richardo Legorreta from Mexico, Charles Correa from India or Geoffrey Bawa from Sri Lanka (posthumously).
My money is on Nouvel, Richard Rogers, Mayne or Calatrava
Thom Mayne??? Why this hype around him? If the jury would give it to him it would just be because a US architect hasn't won for 14 years. I think Wolf D. Prix' (Coop Himmelb(l)au) architecture is more interesting put next to Mayne's.
My bet is Toyo Ito.

I would say eisenman hasn't built enough to get it. I would like to see kazuyo sejima get it but the smart money is on Calatrava.
if it is by who had a smokin year ... my money is on Sejima, Mayne, or Libeskind.
BUT Nouvel, Eisenman, and Ito are all way overdue.
my bet: Eisenman.
as long as silvetti is on the pritzker jury, eisenman will never get the pritzker. period.
Libeskind: too much bad karma on the WTC project.
